Parents Forum

The group meets every two months (usually) at St George’s and is facilitated by Colin Cheeseman and Joyce Smith.

It is a curious fact that ‘we don’t know what we don’t know’ and therefore don’t know where to find out what we don’t know !! As parents we find we discover things ‘by accident’ through the connections we make with other parents.

Our parents group provides the opportunity for speeding up this discovery process as we exchange our different experiences, knowledge, questions, problems, successes etc. In this way we encourage each other on the journey.

Sometimes we have invited guests to boost our knowledge - Social Services to tell us about Carers Vouchers, Prospect Housing about an innovative short break scheme. We will continue to invite other guests as and when the parents ask.

The meetings are on a Friday evening and are open to anyone who is a parent of a son/daughter with a learning difficulty between the ages of 16 and 30 (ish !!!). If you know of anyone who would be interested in joining us do ask them to telephone Joyce (01372 277986) for details of date and place.

Membership of the Conqueror Club is not a requirement – though we do meet on a club night to make life easier for parents!
